Harold L. Haugh, State Representative for District 42 is running for re-election to continue the fight to fix a broken system. He firmly believes he has the necessary leadership, dedication and commitment needed in Lansing to build a bipartisan team to deal with the economic challenges facing District 42 and the great state of Michigan. With his unique experience in government and business, he can provide outstanding leadership and will continue to build cohesive teams with business, labor, and government stakeholders to strengthen District 42 for its residents.
He strongly believes that no one will work harder for this district. For more than 20 years, it has been his honor and privilege to serve as an elected official. During that time, he has worked in partnership with the mayors and other stakeholders of the surrounding cities to bring the best to the city of Roseville and its neighboring communities. And, he intends to do the same for District 42.

In 1982, Haugh served on the Roseville Planning Commission. In 1986, he was appointed chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission. In 1988, Haugh was elected to the Roseville City Council and in 2000 was elected mayor pro-tem by the City Council. In 2005, Haugh was appointed chairman of the Roseville Retirement System. Also, in 2005, Haugh was elected chairman of the Southeast Macomb Sanitary District (SEMSD) and South Macomb Disposal Authority (SMDA) and the chairman of the SEMSD and SMDA Retirement Boards. In November of 2005, Haugh was elected mayor of the City of Roseville. He currently holds that position. In 2006, as chairman of the Roseville Retirement Board, he established a fund for retiree healthcare.
In addition to his mayoral duties, Haugh is a 40-year employee of General Motors. In 1968, he joined the company as a mailroom clerk and has held positions of greater responsibility since that time. Currently, Haugh is the assistant director of General Motors' International Regulations Department and is responsible for a global network of regulatory engineers.
Haugh is dedicated to his community. For 40 years, he has been an active member of many groups, often holding an office. He is a founding member, past president and charter member of the Roseville Optimist Club. He is also a member of Father Solanus Casey Knights of Columbus. Haugh is a member of the Roseville Scholarship Foundation. For many years, he was a member of the Roseville High School Booster Club and managed hardball baseball teams of 13-14 year old boys, leading one team to state champions. He is a volunteer reader at Roseville elementary schools and, as mayor, hosts Student Government Day for Roseville High School students.
In 1998, he was presented with the VFW Americanism Award. He is a member of the Michigan Democratic Party. In 2004, Haugh was a memeber of the Selfridge National Air Force Security Base Council. In 2006, the Honorable Jennifer Granholm appointed Haugh to the Commission on Higher Education and Economic Development in Macomb County.
Haugh has been happily married to Catherine for 42 years with four adult children and four grandchildren. He and his wife are members of St. Athanasius Catholic Community. |
